[Cross Straits Review 466]

Christmas is coming, and Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen, who is busy with elections, has issued a "new check" to raise the minimum wage for workers to 30,000 yuan (TWD, the same below). Taiwanese netizens said that if they can only talk about their dreams on Christmas Eve, then they should find Santa Claus to act for the rest of the term!

The starting salary of young people in Taiwan has been hovering around 22,000 for a long time. Wouldn't it be beautiful if it could be raised to 30,000? Why aren't Taiwanese netizens willing? The reason is very simple. Cai Yingwen and her authorities have not come up with any feasible solution. The so-called promise made by her upper lip and her lips cannot be achieved at all!

In particular, house leaks are in the midnight rain. Under the global economic downturn, and in the climate of freezing cross-strait relations, even if Tsai Ying-wen claims to be a "clever woman", it is difficult to complete such a "rice-free cook." I said that the salary increase, don't let everyone's salary continue to fall is considered a luxury.

In many people's impressions, the word "low pay" can often be heard in the Taiwan Strait News. How long has this topic been discussed? At least 18 years!

In the martial arts world, "18 years" is a magical number that can make ignorant teenagers become masters of martial arts; it can also make rivers and lakes fierce bandits and abandon evil for good. But the 18 years that belonged to Taiwanese workers' salaries were completely free of the ups and downs in martial arts novels, but rather surprisingly "good times."

According to the data released by the "General Accounting Office" of the Taiwan authorities, from January to October 2018, the actual monthly remuneration of all employees in Taiwan averaged 38,148 yuan (price factors have been taken into account).

What level is this? In 2001, the figure was 38,311 yuan. From the numbers, it can be seen intuitively that after nearly 20 years of tossing, the average salary of the people in Taiwan has fallen by 200 yuan! Several braised pork meals are gone!

There is another important reason why Taiwanese netizens do not buy Tsai Ing-wen's account this time, because the last time Tsai Ing. Before the 2016 election, Tsai Ing-wen promised "one case, one break" to allow workers to get more money and more rest; after the election, the Cai authorities really launched "one case, one break", but at the cost of cutting the "statutory 7-day price" of labor and increasing " "Flexible overtime system"; and merchants and management have raised product prices on the grounds of increasing labor costs.

Counting with your fingers, after the promulgation of the new regulations, labor wages have not increased much, and the actual rest time has not increased much, but prices have taken off! For Taiwanese who have suffered a loss, Tsai Ing-wen's labor policy is not only a short check, but also a big pit.

Is Tsai Ing-wen economically ill? Does the DPP have no professional economic think tank or think tank? These are not the key issues. As an economy mainly based on an export-oriented economy, it can be said responsibly whether the economy of Taiwan is good or whether the wages of its workers are high or not, it depends to a large extent on the quality of cross-strait relations.

The closer the cross-strait exchanges and integration and the deeper the cross-strait industrial complementarity, the greater the room for Taiwan's economic growth, and the greater the increase in labor salaries. Abandoning the "golden key" to cross-strait relations cannot unlock the "lock" of Taiwan's economy. Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP are writing negative examples of educational significance for Taiwan's economy and Taiwan's future . (Text / offline)
