[Cross Straits Issue 486] of # 萧萧 话 两岸 #
According to Hong Kong ’s China Ratings Agency, former Chairman of the American Association of In-Taiwan (AIT) Bo Ruiguang said recently that it is impossible to see the peaceful reunification of Taiwan and the mainland, and he believes that the mainland is making long-term preparations for a “last resort”.
[Xiao Xiao Reviews]
Americans, of course, stand by the United States to look at problems and make predictions, but the Chinese have their own wisdom. Solving the Taiwan issue and achieving national reunification is a solemn and sacred mission for the entire Chinese people. For this reason, the Chinese government creatively put forward the basic policy of "peaceful reunification, one country, two systems" and took the lead in successfully solving the Hong Kong and Macao issue with the pioneering practice of "no war", which provided useful inspiration for the international community to solve similar problems.
There is no doubt that China's peaceful development is of great significance to the world. This 2020 election in Taiwan is indeed important and will "influence" the island's political ecology and cross-strait relations in the next four years or more, but it will never be important enough to "determine" the future of cross-strait relations. The leading power of cross-strait relations has been firmly held in the hands of the mainland, and mainstream public opinion across the straits also hopes for peaceful development. Therefore, as long as there is a slight possibility of peaceful reunification, the mainland will not use force; of course, the mainland will never promise to abandon force. After all, the "Taiwan independence" forces are still endangering peace across the Taiwan Strait and are also harming the interests of compatriots on both sides of the strait.
The Taiwan issue arises because of national weakness, and it will certainly end with the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. "One country, two systems" is full of Chinese wisdom and has strong vitality. We have confidence in this. (Ma Xiaoxiao)
