Taipei Port Pier 7 was undertaking the “China Petroleum Kwun Tong Natural Gas Acceptance Project” at the time, and 305 caissons were to be placed outside the port area as the foundation. At that time, the contractor's tugboat dragged the caissons to the Taipei Port temporary storage area, and then towed them A reclamation accident occurred in the Kwun Tong area of Taoyuan. During the process, a caisson accident caused 7 workers to fall into the sea accident. Three Thai workers at the scene had no breathing heartbeat when pulled up. They were still declared dead after the emergency. Of the seven workers who crashed into the sea, six are Thai and one is Taiwanese.
Regarding the accident, the relevant departments of New Taipei City stated that the preliminary understanding was that during the caisson operation, there were no fall prevention devices and measures at the site, which led to workers falling into the sea. At present, relevant departments have requested the suspension of the project, and will further investigate the employer's related responsibilities and the contractual relationship between Taiwan Petroleum Corporation and the contractor.
