Xinhua News Agency: According to Article 14 of the "26 Measures", Taiwan compatriots can seek consular protection and assistance at Chinese embassies and consulates abroad. Please provide further information on how to seek help. Thank you.

Yang Shu, executive deputy director of the Center for Acceptance and Insurance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Compatriots on both sides of the strait are linked by blood. We always attach great importance to safeguarding the safety and legitimate rights and interests of overseas Taiwan compatriots. Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassies and consulates handled more than 85,000 cases of consular protection assistance and handled nearly 12 million consular documents of various kinds. Some of them are related to Taiwan compatriots who have lived or traveled abroad for a long time. We have always attached great importance to consular protection matters involving Taiwan compatriots, and have made every effort to do a good job. If overseas compatriots in Taiwan encounter natural disasters or emergencies, they can seek consular protection and assistance from foreign embassies and consulates in the following ways: The first way is to call the Global Consular Protection and Service Emergency Hotline of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is the 12308 hotline we often advertise. The way to call this hotline overseas is + 86-10-12308, or the alternate long number + 86-10-59913991. The second way is to download the “Ministry of Foreign Affairs 12308” mobile client (APP) and use the “One-click Help” function to dial 12308 hotline online. The third way is to dial the consular protection and assistance emergency phone number of our local embassy or consulate directly. The phone number is published on the website of the embassy or consulate abroad, or you can check it through the mobile phone APP of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs I just mentioned. The fourth way is to communicate with the operator of the 12308 hotline through the dialog box of the "Consul Express" WeChat Mini Program. Here, we would also like to invite overseas Taiwan compatriots to pay attention to our Chinese Consular Service Network and the "Consulate Express" WeChat public account and Weibo to be able to obtain the overseas security reminders and important consular information issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the first time.
